In 2002 Gina decided to return to her creative and artistic roots, since when she has made rapid progress in the world of millinery. She began with a short course at the London College of Fashion and went on to serve an apprenticeship with Jess Collett, well-known for her skills in the intricate techniques of traditional millinery. A year-long HNC course at Kensington and Chelsea College and work placement with Noel Stewart followed.
Following her HNC, in 2004 Gina joined the renowned milliner Stephen Jones as head of the team in his "Miss Jones" workroom. Stephen Jones is an award-winning fashion milliner who has been leading the industry for over 25 years. In the two and a half years that Gina worked in his Covent Garden studio she made hats for numerous designers and celebrities, including John Galliano, Comme des Garcons, Dita Von Teese, Kylie Minogue and Mick Jagger. She was also involved in some of the major fashion exhibitions in London, Tokyo and New York.
In early 2006 Gina launched her own collection of innovative headwear: classic looks with a chic, modern twist. She provides a bespoke service in couture hats for events such as weddings, cocktail parties and the races, as well as a small "ready-to-wear" collection from her Chelsea Embankment studio.
Two years on, the business is going from strength to strength. New inspirations influence quirky designs that remain elegantly chic and incorporate the finest materials. Gina aims to create future collections that demonstrate her love of form and shape, constantly reflecting her view that millinery does not just mean traditional hats! |
